Who Are We?
What's in a Name?
The Web of Wealth is a not-for-profit entity operated by a group of people who have come together because they are fascinated by the subject of wealth and keen to understand it better. To adopt a simple slogan, we are fascinated by wealth, but bored by money.
One of the reasons that wealth is so poorly understood is that discussion of the subject so rapidly collapses into discussion about money, and, in particular, who has managed to channel lots of it into their pockets. So if that is your obsession, we strongly recommend that you stop reading at this point, and go and join one of the many discussions obsessed by how to get rich with the minimum of effort. You should have no trouble finding what you want!
| S P A C E R | What’s in a name? Why are we called the Web of Wealth?Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web while working at CERN in the early 1990s. He also wrote a fascinating book called Weaving The Web which explains why he did it and how it became so successful. The key points that emerge from the history are:
Our contention is that there has always been a Web of Wealth that sustains life on planet Earth, but that it is poorly understood and doesn’t work as well as it could. At root, it is powered by the energy of the Sun, transformed in all manner of ways, both natural and invented. As a species, we are in danger of wrecking this Web of Wealth as a side-effect of poorly conceived attempts to maximise what we consider to be our own well-being. Our Web of Wealth is so named in tribute to Sir Tim’s magnificent achievement. Our intention is to use the infrastructure of the World Wide Web to built and disseminate knowledge and tools that enhance the process of wealth creation, in its fullest sense.
